Custom Turnbull Revolvers

Custom Turnbull Mfg. Co. Revolvers for the Smoke Show

On August 17th we attended the Tony Stewart Smoke Show at the Texas Motor Speedway, to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. The charity was founded to care for children in educational, financial, social, and medial need in an effort to help them live productive lives. We donated two custom revolvers engraved with Tony Stewart’s signature and Speedway Children’s Charities logo for the charity’s auction. We are very pleased to say that the pair of revolvers raised $35,000 for the charity! All together the auction raised $250,000 for Speedway Children’s Charities.

We both had the opportunity to drive 10 laps at the Texas Motor Speedway and ride with Tony Stewart in a Sprint Cup Series car. Doug got up to 136 MPH and Keith reached 138 MPH. The event also included a personalized fire suit and helmet that we were able to take home. After participants had the chance to race around the track in a stock car they celebrated by shooting off our Turnbull Mfg. Co. custom revolvers in Victory Lane.

Following the racing was a question and answer dinner for 200 people featuring Tony Stewart.  The dinner and Speedway Children’s Charities auction was held at the House of Blues in Dallas. Auction items included autographed NASCAR memorabilia, and the Turnbull Mfg. Co. custom revolvers.  After dinner musical entertainment was provided by the Goo Goo Dolls. This event was an amazing experience for us. We are already looking forward to attending next year.

Turnbull on the Road: IndyCar Race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX

Our most recent trip took us to the IndyCar Race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth Thursday, June 3 through Saturday June 5. Another great time in Texas for us with hunting, racing, and more!

The Thursday we arrived, Doug participated in a pig hunt where he shot a pig with a 475 Turnbull. You may have seen the photos on Turnbull Mfg.’s Facebook page

While Doug was finishing up hunting, Keith went to a qualifying race on Thursday evening. During the day on Friday, we went out to visit various gun shops in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to stop and talk about gun manufacturing and more. That night we headed out to the Winstar World Casino 400K.

Saturday before the big event, Keith got to do a tandem ride in an Indy Car with Arie Luyendyk, Jr. – almost 200mph around the track – AWESOME! We then went to the IndyCar Race that day. Danica Patrick was in the lead, but Team Penske’s, Ryan Briscoe stepped it up and won the race!

Ryan fired off Turnbull pistols in the winner’s circle. We got to meet Roger Penske, owner of the Penske Team that Ryan drives for. As a result of this trip, Keith was invited as a guest of Ryan Briscoe’s over the 4th of July weekend to the IndyRace at the Glen. Check out some pictures on our Facebook page.

Turnbull on the Road: NRA-ILA Convention in Charlotte, NC

The weekend of May 14th, we attended the NRA-ILA convention in Charlotte, NC. We primarily went to the conference to talk with manufacturers that we are partnering with and potential future partners, and to show our support for the NRA. As we become more involved with the manufacturing of firearms, we are working with more and more firearm manufacturers to customize their firearms with finishing.

While walking the exhibits we met a lot of great people in the industry. Many of those recognized Doug by his trademark hat. We were also able to talk with Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the NRA and Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA.

Keith attended the 2nd Annual Celebration of American Values Freedom Event on Saturday, May 15th. While there, Keith heard Glenn Beck and Newt Gingrich speak and even met Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North (see pic)! And, Keith got to see and listen to music legend Charlie Daniels.

We also attended an auction to benefit the NRA-ILA in which we were able to participate by being involved with the donation of a pistol. In a partnership with Kimber, Turnbull Mfg. did the finish work on a Kimber firearm that sold at auction for $10,000! The retail on this gun is $4,300. We were glad to do what we could to support the NRA and had a great time while there

Turnbull on the Road: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway in April

The weekend of April 17th and 18th (and 19th) we were honored to provide Turnbull manufactured firearms to the winners of the April NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway. We manufactured a custom rifle for the winner of the pole position race and custom pistols for the winner of the primary NASCAR race. Read more about these commemorative firearms.

Before the races, we were fortunate to be able to attend the Texas Motor Speedway proclamation day in Fort Worth and give people a sneak peak of the commemorative firearms Turnbull would be presenting to the winners of that weekend’s races. While we were there we met Texas Governor, Rick Perry; Fort Worth Mayor, Mike Moncrief; President of Texas Motor Speedway, Eddie Gossage; NASCAR racer Bobby Labonte; and others. We were impressed that they blocked off some main streets in downtown Fort Worth to hold the event!

The first race was the pole position race on Friday. Always an unpredictable race where potential winners can appear with each new race time, we were pleasantly surprised when Tony Stewart jumped from about the 11th position to 1st and won the race. (Keith is a big fan!) After the race, Tony drove his car up and we presented the commemorative rifle. Tony was able to shoot the rifle off in the winner’s circle.

The big race, originally schedule to take place on Sunday, April 18th was postponed to Monday the 19th due to rain. The race was exciting and even though the weather was threatening even on Monday, the race went on as planned. It did end with a crash with only about 20 laps to go, but luckily no one was hurt! Denny Hamlin was the winner of that race and he received the two Turnbull manufactured pistols. We presented the pistols to Denny who also fired them off in the winner’s circle.

Look for Turnbull again at the IndyCar Series Race at Texas Motor Speedway on June 5th where we will be shooting off another set of commemorative pistols. We’ll also be presenting an additional set of commemorative shotgun and pistols to the winners of the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on November 7th.

Turnbull Manufacturing – New Name… Same Great Company

Doug Turnbull Restoration, Inc. has officially changed its name to Turnbull Mfg. Co., Inc. as of April 1, 2010. The name change reflects a shift in Turnbull’s operations where they are now manufacturing many lines of new firearms that are exact replicas of many of the vintage model guns that they are renowned for restoring.

Given their reputation as a world leader in the vintage firearms market, Turnbull Manufacturing has been sought out by several other gun manufacturers to provide their signature color case hardening, bluing and other sophisticated finishes for limited edition and collectible vintage style firearms. Turnbull can provide finishing work done through the original processes and have them appear better than the originals.

Company President Keith VanOrman will expand the gun restoration operations to meet increased customer demand, along with cultivating new products and markets in collaboration with their firearms manufacturing clients.

“During his tenure here, Keith has been instrumental in developing relationships with many of the large gun manufacturers who we collaborate with on special edition firearms,” said founder and CEO Doug Turnbull. “Keith’s expertise in manufacturing operations and efficiency has been a tremendous asset to our company and will help ensure our future growth.”

Turnbull Manufacturing Company also has their own lines of manufactured vintage firearms which include Winchester-style rifles, Colt-style single action revolvers and their .470 and .475 Turnbull rifles widely used for big game hunting. Turnbull manufactured firearms offer modern ballistic performance while retaining vintage firearm appearances – affording today’s hunters the ability to “shoot history” with improved accuracy.
